About Hadeel
Hadeel Mikki her daughter Mira before the war
Hadeel Mikki is a Palestinian programmer, wife, and mother of three. She studied Computer Science at the Islamic University of Gaza and has worked a wide range of freelance jobs, focusing primarily on full-stack website development.
Programming is a passion as well as a vocation for Hadeel, and before the war she enjoyed connecting with other programmers and freelancers from around the world, sharing posts about women in STEM, current developments in the Arabic-speaking tech world, and silly programmer memes.
Hadeel and her husband Waseem have two young daughters, Mira and Nadia, and a baby. Due to the war in Gaza and the complete destruction of their home, Hadeel is currently fundraising to try and prepare for getting her family through the Rafah crossing when possible.

The war has taken a heavy toll on Hadeel and her family; the very first night of the war, October 7th, 2023,
their home was partially damaged by a nearby Israeli strike. Two weeks later, they were suddenly forced to evacuate.
Some of their family was not able to escape in time; Waseem's uncle and aunt and their entire family of five was killed
in a direct bombing. The shock and grief of losing his family was too much for Waseem's father,
who grew sick, and without access to medical care, passed away. The girls miss him very much, especially Mira,
who is not old enough to understand why she can not go and see her grandfather any more.

For the last seventeen months, Hadeel's sole focus has been on looking after her family. They have found a single room to rent,
but the winter has been very cold, and food, blankets, and medicine are hard to come by. The girls eat one meal a day, and
miss their old lives tremendously-- they miss their friends, and their school, and as they are growing their
old clothes can't fit them any more.
In February 2025, Waseem went back to their former home to see if anything could be salvaged, but nothing remained.
Now, Hadeel's hope for her family lies in the Rafah Crossing-- a path out of Gaza and into Egypt. At present, this journey costs £5000 per person.
Hadeel hopes to bring her three children, her husband, her mother, her two brothers, and herself out and to safety.
In Hadeel's own words:
Maybe this fundraising effort is like a beacon in the darkness, our sole source of hope that we hold onto tightly. I urge the world to listen to my plea and the sorrowful cries of my Gaza kin. We desperately require the helping hand that can dry our tears and lead us to safety.
Your contribution is more than just money; it's a chance to reconstruct life and illuminate a brighter future. Join us in shaping a tale of hope, as we rely on your support to begin afresh.
