The Mikki family before the war

On the 7th of October, 2023, the home of Hadeel Mikki and her family-- husband Waseem and daughters Mira and Nadia-- was damaged in an airstrike.

Two weeks later, she and her family had to evacuate, taking her mother, Tahani, and her two brothers with them.

They have lost a great deal-- in addition to their home, which was completely destroyed in a later attack, they have lost family, too. Some were lost to direct violence: an airstrike took out the home of Waseem's uncle, and that entire branch of the family was killed. Some have perished in the aftermath, including Mira and Nadia's paternal grandfather. The pain and grief of losing his family was too much for him, and without access to medical care, he passed away.

Now, seventeen months later, Hadeel and her family are living in central Gaza, in a single room. They are trying to raise money, both to live on-- it gets very cold at night, and they need clothes and food for the girls, and for a new baby-- and, hopefully, to escape Gaza into Egypt.

How We Can Help

Hadeel and her family need to raise €35,000 in order to pay to cross into Egypt. As of this writing, they're more than halfway there, with €20,000 raised.

If we work together, we can help raise the rest.

Cross Stitch for Gaza is collecting patterns for a charity bundle: designers, artists, and amateur pattern-makers can donate patterns to be added to the bundle, and once the bundle is complete, anyone who donates €15 or more to Hadeel Mikki's GoFundMe will be able to email a proof of donation to the Cross Stitch for Gaza team and be sent back a ZIP file containing all of the patterns.

If you are someone who knows how to make a pattern-- whether as a pro or an amateur-- we would be happy to have your contribution!

The cross-stitch community may not be large, but it is a community of love and support. If we work together, sharing our art, our time, and our talents, we have the power to help this family.
